Vacancies for Sports Officers at Department of Sports Development

The Department of Sports Development has announced the recruitment of Sports Officers (Grade III) under the Management Assistant-Technical Segment 2 service category for 2026. Applications are invited from eligible Sri Lankan citizens to fill 18 vacancies currently available within the department.

Position: Sports Officer (Grade III).
Total Vacancies: 18.
Salary Scale: The starting monthly salary is Rs. 50,630, with a maximum scale reaching Rs. 86,300 (MT 02-2025) plus other government allowances.

Eligibility Criteria

Prospective candidates must meet specific educational and athletic requirements:

Educational Qualifications: Candidates must have passed the G.C.E. Ordinary Level (O/L) examination in six subjects in one sitting with credit passes in Sinhala/Tamil/English, Mathematics, and two other subjects. Additionally, they must have passed all subjects at the G.C.E. Advanced Level (A/L) examination (excluding the General Common Test).
Sports Achievement: Candidates must have secured top positions (1st, 2nd, or 3rd) in recognized national or provincial sports festivals, or have represented Sri Lanka in international competitions such as the South Asian Games, Asian Games, Commonwealth Games, or Olympics.
Age Limit: Applicants must be no older than 35 years as of the application closing date.
Technical Requirement: Appointed officers must obtain an NVQ Level 06 Technical Diploma related to sports within the first three years of service to confirm their permanency.

Selection Process

The selection will be based on a two-step evaluation:

Professional Test: A practical physical fitness assessment conducted by the Department of Sports Development and the Institute of Sports Medicine.
Aptitude Interview: Candidates who pass the physical test will be called for an interview where they will be scored on additional education (10 marks), sports prowess (70 marks), coaching/organizing experience (15 marks), and interview performance (5 marks).
