Higher Diploma in Library and Information Sciences – 2023/2024

The CEDEC at Eastern University, Sri Lanka, is now accepting applications for its Higher Diploma in Library and Information Sciences for the 2025/2026 academic year. The application deadline is set for July 29, 2025.

This three-year, part-time weekend program is recognized under the Sri Lanka Qualification Framework (SLQF) as a Level 4 qualification. It is designed to meet the requirements for librarian appointments and promotions within the Sri Lanka Library Service, as stipulated in the Gazette Extraordinary No. 1620/22.

The course will be conducted in the Tamil language through a blended learning model, combining both in-person and online instruction.

Eligibility Criteria:

Candidates must meet one of the following qualifications to be eligible for the program:

• Passed the G.C.E. Advanced Level examination in three subjects (new syllabus) or four subjects (old syllabus) in no more than two sittings.
• Hold an NVQ Level 4 certificate in any field.
• Passed the G.C.E. Advanced Level examination in two subjects (new syllabus) or three subjects (old syllabus), along with at least a credit pass (C) in six subjects, including Tamil/English and Mathematics, at the G.C.E. Ordinary Level, AND possess a minimum of five years of continuous work experience in a library or a related field.

• Total Course Fee: LKR 65,000/= (Can be paid in two installments)

Application Procedure:

1. Apply Online: Applicants must complete the online application form available on the university’s official website.
2. Fee Payment: An application fee of LKR 1,000/= must be deposited to the People’s Bank, Chenkalady Branch. The bank details are as follows:

3. Document Submission (Online): Scanned copies of all relevant educational and professional documents, along with the university copy of the fee payment slip, must be uploaded through the online application portal.
4. Postal Submission: After submitting the online form, applicants must send a printed copy of the completed application, photocopies of the supporting documents, and the original university copy of the payment slip via registered post to the address below. The envelope should be clearly marked “Higher Diploma in Library and Information Science – 2025/2026” on the top-left corner.
