The Ministry of Education has released a new circular for the 2026 National English Language and Drama Competitions, effective from 15 February 2026, replacing Circular No. 10/2025 04-2026-En.
Held annually at school, divisional, zonal, provincial, and national levels, the competition aims to improve students’ English proficiency, encourage creativity, and promote critical thinking among students in government and private schools across Sri Lanka.
The events include written competitions such as Handwriting, Dictation, and Creative Writing, as well as performing events like Recitation, Oratory (Prepared and Impromptu), Storytelling, and Drama. Clear marking schemes and time limits have been introduced to ensure fairness and uniformity.
The Ministry has emphasized proper supervision, impartial judging, and strict adherence to guidelines at all levels. National-level results will be released ten days after the completion of the competitions.
