The Ministry of Education, Higher Education and Vocational Education (Isurupaya, Battaramulla) has issued official directive Ed/16/01/05/01 outlining procedural guidelines for the formal commencement of Grade 01 classes for the 2027 academic year across all government, approved, and unapproved private schools.

Under new primary education reforms, a pre-academic assessment program titled “Joyful Beginning to Primary School” will take place prior to regular academic sessions, followed by the formal start of classes on January 20, 2027.

2027 අධ්‍යයන වර්ෂයේ 1 ශ්‍රේණිය සඳහා සිසුන් ඇතුළත් කරගැනීම, “පළමු ශ්‍රේණියට සතුටුදායක ආරම්භයක්” ඇගයීම් වැඩසටහන පැවැත්වීම සහ පන්ති ආරම්භ කිරීම පිළිබඳ අධ්‍යාපන අමාත්‍යාංශය විසින් විශේෂ උපදෙස් මාලාවක් නිකුත් කර ඇත. ඒ අනුව, 2027 ජනවාරි 05 සිට ජනවාරි 19 දක්වා ඇගයීම් වැඩසටහන පැවැත්වෙන අතර, 2027 ජනවාරි 20 වන දින විධිමත් පන්ති ආරම්භ වේ.

2027 ஆம் கல்வியாண்டிற்கான தரம் 01 மாணவர் சேர்க்கை மற்றும் “ஆரம்பப் பள்ளிக்கு மகிழ்ச்சியான தொடக்கம்” மதிப்பீட்டுத் திட்டம் தொடர்பான உத்தியோகபூர்வ அறிவித்தலை கல்வி அமைச்சு வெளியிட்டுள்ளது. இதன்படி, மதிப்பீட்டுத் திட்டம் 2027 ஜனவரி 05 முதல் ஜனவரி 19 வரை நடைபெறும் என்பதுடன், உத்தியோகபூர்வ வகுப்புகள் 2027 ஜனவரி 20 புதன்கிழமை ஆரம்பமாகும்.

Key Directives & Implementation Timeline

• Student Assessment Program (“Joyful Beginning to Primary School”): Conducted from January 05, 2027 to January 19, 2027 (excluding public holidays) per National Institute of Education (NIE) guidelines. Flexible arrangements must be made for students admitted post-assessment.
• Formal Admission & Class Commencement: All formal student admissions must be finalized prior to January 20, 2027 (Wednesday), which marks the official start of regular Grade 01 classes.
• Welcome Ceremony Guidelines: Scheduled for January 20, 2027, featuring greetings by Grade 02 students, flag hoisting, national/school anthems, parent orientation on primary education reforms, and student-led cultural items.
• Event Management & Cooperation: Principals must maintain a student-centric approach without causing unnecessary burden to parents, collaborating with the School Development Society (SDS) and Past Pupils Association.
