The Ministry of Education, Higher Education, and Vocational Education has officially called for applications from eligible government and government-approved private school teachers for admission to state universities in Sri Lanka for the 2025/2026 academic year. This scheme allows qualified teachers to pursue internal undergraduate degree programs full-time with paid study leave.
📚 Offered Degree Courses
Bachelor of Arts (BA)
Must include English as a subject.
Bachelor of Science (BSc)
Biological Science / Physical Science / Applied Sciences.
✅ Eligibility Criteria
- Academic Qualifications (Arts): Passed the General Arts Qualifying (External) Examination / Bachelor of Arts (External) First Examination (including English) in 2021 or later.
- Academic Qualifications (Science): Passed the Bachelor of Science (External) First Examination in 2021 or later.
- Service Period: Must have completed at least 05 years of continuous service as a teacher by the closing date of applications, and the appointment must be confirmed.
- Leave Eligibility: Must be eligible for paid study leave for the entire duration of the full-time course.
- Non-Registration Status: Must not be currently registered for any degree course at a Teachers’ Training College, NCoE, or NIE, or any internal degree program at a Sri Lankan state university (free of charge).
- Subject Prerequisites: For Science streams, candidates must fulfill G.C.E. (A/L) or external exam prerequisites specified by the respective universities.

Note on Certifications
Government school applications must be certified by the School Principal, Zonal Education Director, and Provincial Education Director. Approved private school applications must be certified by the Principal/Manager. The certifying officer must explicitly state whether study leave can be approved.

- Total marks obtained in the relevant qualifying external examination.
- Marks obtained for specific subjects.
- Performance in the interview conducted by the University Grants Commission (UGC).
