Sri Lanka Railways Announces Recruitment for Basic Technicians

The Sri Lanka Railways Department has called for applications from qualified Sri Lankan citizens for an open competitive examination to recruit trainees for Basic Technician Grade III positions within the Management Assistant Technological Segment 03 service category. The announcement was made via the Government Gazette dated May 2, 2025.  

Numerous vacancies are available across various technical fields, including Wireman (27 positions), Carpenter (147), Mason (84), Painter (36), Blacksmith (39), and others.  

Eligible candidates must be between 18 and 45 years old as of the application closing date. Applicants need to have passed the G.C.E. Ordinary Level examination in one sitting with passes in six subjects, including credit passes for Sinhala/Tamil/English language, Mathematics, and two other subjects. Alternatively, candidates with NVQ Level 3 or higher qualifications in a relevant field are also eligible. Specific vocational qualifications and experience requirements vary depending on the trade applied for.  

The selection process involves a written examination covering General Knowledge and an Aptitude Test, followed by a structured interview for shortlisted candidates. Successful candidates will undergo a one-year training period. Upon successful completion of the training and passing subsequent written and practical tests, trainees will be appointed to Grade III positions.
