The Department of Examinations, Sri Lanka, has officially released the instructions for school candidates applying for the General Certificate of Education (Advanced Level) Examination – 2026. School principals have been notified to begin the application process via the official online system.
Key Deadlines and Submission
- Closing Date for Applications: April 24, 2026.
- Extension Policy: No extensions will be granted for any reason.
- Physical Copy Submission: One printed copy of the online application, signed by the student and principal, must be submitted to the Zonal Education Office by May 5, 2026, before 10:00 AM.
Application Guidelines for Schools
- Online Mode Only: All applications must be completed exclusively through the online system.
- School Profile Updates: Before entering student data, principals must ensure the school’s profile (address, contact details, and exam city) is fully updated.
- Subject and Medium Accuracy: Great care must be taken when selecting subjects and the medium of instruction. Changes to these details will not be permitted once submitted.
- Special Needs Students: Information for candidates with visual or hearing impairments or other special needs must be entered through the “Special Education Need Students” link.
Candidate Requirements and Eligibility
- Identity Verification: All candidates must present a National Identity Card (NIC), a valid Passport, or a valid Driving License during the exam.
- Temporary ID Numbers: Candidates without an NIC must visit the Department of Examinations in person to obtain a temporary identification number.
- Attempt Criteria: Students who have remained in the Advanced Level classes for more than three years are ineligible to apply as school candidates.
- Private vs. School Candidates: Only those who have officially left school and obtained a leaving certificate can apply as private candidates. Students currently enrolled in school who attempt to apply privately may face legal action and the suspension of results.
