The Sri Lanka Library Association (SLLA) has called for applications for the Diploma in Library and Information Science (DLIS) for the 2025/2026 academic year.
This diploma programme provides an opportunity for individuals to become professional librarians and information specialists. The course is recognized as a basic professional qualification for employment in public and private library and information institutions. It also opens pathways for higher education opportunities up to PhD level.
Entry Requirements
Applicants should possess one of the following qualifications:
- A degree from a university recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC), OR
- G.C.E. (A/L) in three subjects at one sitting AND
- G.C.E. (O/L) with six passes at one sitting, including three credits with First Language, and passes in English and Mathematics, OR
- Minimum three years of permanent service in a recognized library along with the above O/L and A/L qualifications.
Course Details
- Duration: One year
- Medium: Sinhala, Tamil and English (Online & Classroom)
- Distance Mode: Sinhala only
- Course Fee: Rs. 35,000
- Classes will be conducted on Sundays.
After three years of satisfactory experience in the library field, diploma holders are eligible to apply for the Postgraduate Diploma at the National Institute of Library and Information Science (NILIS), University of Colombo. The qualification also enables admission to the Bachelor of Library Science Degree at the Open University of Sri Lanka.

An application fee of Rs. 1,000 should be deposited to the Bank of Ceylon account number 0002323087 in favour of SLLA. The original bank receipt, completed application form, and certified copies of relevant educational certificates must be sent by post.
