Launched under the theme “Protect Forever – The Children of the Nation,” this initiative ensures the physical and psychosocial well-being of students, supporting uninterrupted education. This blog post explores the benefits, claim process, form submission, and how to access this vital scheme, optimized for SEO to help parents and students find the information they need.

What is Suraksha Insurance?

Introduced in 2017 as part of the Government’s budget proposal, Suraksha is a free insurance scheme covering approximately 4.5 million students in government schools, approved private schools, special needs schools, and pirivens. Suraksha Claim Process

Filing a claim under Suraksha is straightforward, with a step-by-step guide available on the claim process page. Here’s how it works:

  1. Complete the Claim Form: Download the Suraksha Claim Form and fill it with accurate details about the incident or medical issue.
  2. Obtain Grama Niladhari Certification: For certain claims, a Grama Niladhari Form must be completed and certified by the local Grama Niladhari.
  3. Gather Supporting Documents: Include medical reports, receipts, or other relevant documents as specified in the claim guidelines.
  4. Submit the Claim: Use the Suraksha Student Portal to submit a new claim or attach documents to an existing one. Alternatively, deliver forms to any of SLIC’s 158 branches or the head office at Rakshana Mandiraya, No. 21, Vauxhall Street, Colombo 02.
  5. Track Claim Status: Monitor progress via the Suraksha Student Portal.

Important: Ensure all details are accurate before submission, as incomplete or incorrect forms may delay processing.

SLIC’s extensive branch network ensures accessibility, and the process is designed to be hassle-free for students and parents.

How to Download and Submit Forms

To access the necessary forms:

  • Visit the Download Forms page to obtain the Claim Form and Grama Niladhari Form.
  • For online submission, use the Suraksha Student Portal. Select “Submit a New Claim” or “Attach Documents/Check Status” as needed.
  • Physical submissions can be mailed or handed over to SLIC’s head office or any branch.

For dividend applications or additional benefits, contact SLIC directly or refer to announcements from the Ministry of Education.

Why Suraksha Matters

The Suraksha scheme addresses critical needs by:

  • Enhancing School Attendance: Quick healthcare access reduces absenteeism due to illness or injury.
  • Supporting Disabilities: Financial aid for treatments ensures students with disabilities can continue their education.
  • Protecting Families: Life insurance for parents below the poverty line adds a layer of security.
