The Ministry of Education, Higher Education and Vocational Education has announced applications for the Serbian Undergraduate Scholarship Programme 2026/27 under the Republic of Serbia’s prestigious “The World in Serbia” Project. Eligible Sri Lankan students now have the opportunity to pursue higher education in Serbia with full scholarship benefits.
Scholarship Overview
The Government of Serbia is offering one (01) undergraduate scholarship to a Sri Lankan student for the academic cycle 2026/27. Selected candidates will first study the Serbian language during 2026/27 and subsequently enroll in their degree programme in the 2027/28 academic year.
Available Fields of Study
The scholarship is available in the following Engineering disciplines:
- Civil Engineering
- Electrical Engineering
- Mechanical Engineering
- Transport & Traffic Engineering
- Architecture
- Electronic Engineering
The medium of instruction will be Serbian Language.
Eligibility Requirements
Applicants must:
- Be a Sri Lankan citizen.
- Be below 21 years of age as of 26 June 2026.
- Have obtained at least three passes in the G.C.E. Advanced Level Examination 2025 in the Physical Science stream.
- Possess good English language proficiency (minimum “C” pass in English at G.C.E. A/L or equivalent).
- Be medically fit to live and study in Serbia.
- Not be currently registered as an internal student at a state university in Sri Lanka.
Scholarship Benefits
Successful candidates will receive:
- Free Serbian language preparatory courses.
- Full tuition fee waiver.
- Monthly scholarship allowance of RSD 18,000.
- Free accommodation and meals in student residences.
- Health insurance coverage for students under 26 years of age.
Expenses Not Covered
The scholarship does not cover:
- International travel expenses.
- Public transportation within Serbia.
- Textbooks and study materials.
- Examination registration fees and other administrative charges.
Important Information
- Scholarship recipients will not be considered for the University Grants Commission (UGC) admission process in Sri Lanka.
- Final selection will be made by the Republic of Serbia.
- Students must pass the Serbian language examination before enrolling in their chosen degree programme.
- Candidates who withdraw after selection may become ineligible for future scholarship opportunities offered by the Ministry.
Selection Procedure
Qualified applicants will be nominated based on their G.C.E. A/L Z-Score ranking. The final decision regarding scholarship awards will be made by the Government of Serbia after reviewing the nominations submitted by Sri Lanka.
