The Northern Provincial Department of Education has released the list of approved teacher transfers for the 2024-2025 academic year. This decision comes after a thorough review of applications by the Provincial Teacher Transfer Board, which includes representatives from various teacher unions and educational bodies.
The transfer process was guided by several key criteria:
- Subject Needs: Transfers were considered based on the specific subject requirements of schools.
- Availability of Replacements: Transfers were only approved where suitable replacements could be provided.
- Prioritizing Underserved Areas: Teachers who have not yet served in remote areas were given preference.
- Long-Term Service: Teachers with longer service in challenging areas were considered for subsequent transfers.
- Age Limit: The transfer policy’s age limit of 55 years (for both male and female teachers) was strictly adhered to.
- Service Requirements: Teachers who joined before March 31, 2017, and have completed the required years of service in remote areas without any breaks were prioritized for the first phase of transfers.
- Special Considerations: Teachers from the Valikamam and Thenmaradchi zones with seven years of service in remote areas and five continuous years in those zones were also considered. Additionally, the board took into account the unique circumstances of the Vadamarachchi zone, considering both remote service and staffing surpluses.
Future transfer considerations will include teachers appointed between April 1, 2017, and December 31, 2017. The board also emphasized the transfer of teachers from overstaffed schools to fill vacancies in other zones, based on service needs. Furthermore, the challenging conditions of the Delft Island region within the Thieve Educational Zone were given special attention.
Appeals: Teachers who wish to appeal the decision can submit their appeals through the appropriate channels within 14 days.
Effective Date: The transfers will take effect on April 1, 2025, and transfer orders will be distributed accordingly.
