The Provincial Department of Education for the Northern Province has officially initiated the Annual Teacher Transfers 2025/2026 academic year, with transfers set to take effect from January 1, 2026. The announcement was made through a circular dated June 2, 2025, addressed to all Zonal Directors of Education within the province.
The circular calls for applications from eligible teachers in the Sri Lanka Teacher Service for inter-zonal, intra-zonal, and inter-provincial transfers. The entire process will be governed by the Northern Province Annual Teacher Transfer Policy, which was approved by the Governor on March 24, 2023.
Application Process and Deadlines
Teachers wishing to apply for a transfer are required to submit their applications online through the Education Management Information System (EMIS) database. Following the online submission, a hard copy of the application, along with all relevant supporting documents, must be compiled and sent to the Provincial Department of Education.
The key dates for the transfer process are as follows:
- June 30, 2025: Final date for all applications to be received by the respective Zonal Education Offices. Applications received after this date will be rejected at the zonal level.
- July 15, 2025: Deadline for Zonal Directors to submit their recommendations for inter-zonal transfers to the Provincial Director of Education.
- December 31, 2025: The service period for all applicants will be calculated up to this date
