The National Institute of Education (NIE) has announced that applications will be invited from Monday for the Master of Education (M.Ed.) Degree Programme 2025/2026 (Part-time). This prestigious programme, offered by the Faculty of Teacher Education and Alternative Education, Department of Teacher Education, is designed for professionals in the education sector and is aligned with SLQF Level 9, leading to SLQF Level 10.
Entry Qualifications: Master of Education
To be eligible, applicants must meet one of the following qualifications under SLQF Level 9:
Category 01
- Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.) Degree (SLQF 6) with a minimum GPA of 2.7 or at least five B passes.
Category 02
- Any Bachelor’s Degree (SLQF 5 or 6) and a Postgraduate Diploma in Education with a minimum GPA of 2.7 or at least five B passes in the Postgraduate Diploma.
Category 03
- Any Bachelor’s Degree (SLQF 5 or 6) with a class designation and a Postgraduate Diploma in Education.
- Plus, service in one of the following categories:
- Sri Lanka Teacher Service (SLTS)
- Sri Lanka In-Service Advisor Service (SLISAS)
- Sri Lanka Principal Service (SLPS)
- Sri Lanka Educational Administrative Service (SLEAS)
- Sri Lanka Teacher Educator Service (SLTES)
- Full-time Senior Lecturers, Lecturers, Assistant Lecturers, and Probationary Lecturers of recognized universities or higher education institutes.
- Heads and teachers of semi-government schools, government-approved private schools, international schools (approved by the Ministry of Education), Pirivenas, and other government religious institutes.
Additionally, candidates must have at least three years of continuous service from the date of their initial appointment.
Note: Degrees awarded by foreign universities through local agencies must be accredited by the relevant authority in the foreign country, attested by the Sri Lankan Embassy, and verified by the Consular Division of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Sri Lanka.
Regional Learning Centres and Medium of Instruction
The M.Ed. programme will be conducted in Sinhala, Tamil, and English at the following Regional Learning Centres:
- Sinhala Medium: NIE Main Campus
- Tamil Medium: NIE Main Campus, Jaffna NCOE
- English Medium: NIE Main Campus
