Ministry of Education & Department of Examinations Announce 2nd EB Exam 2026 for Sri Lanka Teachers’ Service
The Ministry of Education and the Department of Examinations, Sri Lanka have announced the 2nd Efficiency Bar (EB) Examination 2026 for officers of the Sri Lanka Teachers’ Service in all National and Provincial schools. The examination is scheduled for September 2026. The official Gazette notification was published on 17 July 2026. Online applications are open from 20 July 2026 to 10 August 2026 via the Department of Examinations portal. The exam is mandatory for Grade 2-II teachers who were promoted or appointed after joining at Grade 3 and must be completed within four years of service in Grade 2-II. Teachers promoted to Grade 2-I before 30 June 2025 subject to future EB completion must also sit this examination. Self-study materials are available on the Ministry’s e-Thaksalawa learning portal.

Grade 2-II Teachers
Officers in Grade 2-II who were promoted to this grade or appointed after joining at Grade 3 must complete the 2nd Efficiency Bar Exam before completing four (4) years of service in Grade 2-II.
⚠️ Exempt: Teachers directly recruited with a Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.) degree

Promotion to Grade 1
Teachers who were promoted to Grade 2-I prior to 30 June 2025, subject to the condition of completing the 2nd EB Exam at a future date, must complete this examination to be eligible for further promotion to Grade 1.
