The Ministry of Education, Higher Education, and Vocational Education has issued an official directive extending the period of temporary attachments for teachers serving in National Schools.
According to the circular issued on October 29, 2025 (Ref: ED/01/27/15/01), the validity period of these temporary attachments has been extended until March 3, 2026.
Key Guidelines for Principals and Teachers
The circular, signed by Additional Secretary (Establishment) H.J.S.S. Edirisuriya, highlights several critical conditions regarding this extension:
- Principal’s Recommendation: The extension is valid only for instances where the Principal agrees to recommend the continuation of the attachment.
- No Individual Letters: The Ministry has stated that separate personal letters will not be issued to individual teachers regarding this extension. Principals have been instructed to act according to this general circular.
Impact of Annual Transfers (2025)
The Ministry has issued a strict clarification regarding teachers who have received transfer orders under the 2025 Compulsory/Annual Teacher Transfer scheme.
If a teacher currently on temporary attachment has been recommended for a new service station via the 2025 transfer lists:
- Their temporary attachment is considered immediately cancelled effective from the date of the transfer.
- Principals must release these teachers immediately to assume duties at their new service station.
This directive has been circulated to all National School Principals, Provincial Directors of Education, and Zonal Directors of Education to ensure uniform implementation.
