The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment & Tourism, in collaboration with the Sri Lanka Bureau of Foreign Employment (SLBFE), has officially announced the opening of applications for the 2025 scholarship program dedicated to the children of Sri Lankan migrant workers registered with the SLBFE.
This scholarship program aims to support students at various stages of education—Grade 5 Scholarship, G.C.E. (O/L), and G.C.E. (A/L)—whose parents have been employed overseas during the specified timeframes.
Eligible Categories and Criteria:
A) Grade 5 Scholarship Applicants:
- Parent must have been employed abroad between 15.09.2019 and 15.09.2024 and registered with SLBFE.
- Applicant must have passed the Grade 5 Scholarship Examination in 2024, meeting the district cut-off mark.
Required Documents:
- Applicant’s original birth certificate.
- Original exam certificate from the Department of Examinations.
- Bio page of the parent’s passport (migrant worker).
B) G.C.E. (O/L) Applicants:
- Parent must have been employed abroad between 06.05.2019 and 06.05.2024 and registered with SLBFE.
- Must have passed the G.C.E. (O/L) 2023 or 2024 with at least 6 subjects including Mathematics and currently studying for G.C.E. (A/L) with at least 3 subject passes.
Required Documents:
- Applicant’s original birth certificate.
- G.C.E. (O/L) exam certificate.
- Applicant’s National Identity Card.
- Parent’s passport bio page.
C) G.C.E. (A/L) Applicants:
- Parent must have been employed abroad between 04.01.2019 and 04.01.2024 and registered with SLBFE.
- Must have passed G.C.E. (A/L) in 2023 or 2024 and currently enrolled in a full-time degree course at a recognized university or a diploma course (minimum 2 years) in a recognized institute.
Required Documents:
- Applicant’s original birth certificate.
- G.C.E. (A/L) exam certificate.
- Applicant’s National Identity Card.
- Letter from university registrar confirming enrollment.
- Parent’s passport bio page.
