The Ministry of Education, Higher Education, and Vocational Education has announced a key amendment to the qualifications required for the upcoming competitive examination for graduate teacher recruitment.
In a media release issued today, February 13, 2026, the Ministry stated that it has sought legal advice to amend the effective date for fulfilling degree qualifications.
Key Details of the Amendment
The recruitment process, originally announced via Extraordinary Gazette No. 2474/19 on February 02, 2026, aims to fill Sinhala, Tamil, and English medium teacher vacancies in both National and Provincial schools.
- Proposed Change: Following instructions from the Cabinet of Ministers, the Ministry has requested the Attorney General’s advice to adjust the deadline for completing degree qualifications to March 05, 2026 (Clause 5.1 of the original Gazette).
- Current Status: Legal advice has already been received regarding this amendment.
- Next Steps: The Ministry is scheduled to present the finalized proposal to the Cabinet of Ministers on February 16, 2026, for formal approval.
