Fully Funded Japanese Scholarship for Sri Lankan Students

The Japanese Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT) Fully Funded Japanese Scholarship has officially announced the Asia Kakehashi Project+ 2026, a prestigious scholarship aimed at fostering the next generation of global leaders.

This fully funded program invites high school students to swap their local classrooms for a four-month immersion in the Japanese education system, living with host families or in school dormitories to experience authentic Japanese culture firsthand.

Key Program Details

The “Kakehashi” (meaning “bridge”) project is designed to build lasting connections between Japan and the rest of Asia.

Duration: August – December 2026
Coverage: Fully funded (Tuition, travel, and living expenses)
Location: Various high schools across Japan

Eligibility Criteria

To be considered for this life-changing exchange, applicants must meet the following requirements:

Nationality & Age: Must be a Sri Lankan citizen born between April 2, 2008, and April 1, 2011.
Academic Excellence: A minimum of 60% marks in all subjects in the latest school exams, and a consistent 60% average over the past two years.
Language Skills: Applicants must be learners of the Japanese language. Notably, those who have participated in Japanese speech contests will receive priority selection.
Leadership: Candidates should demonstrate strong leadership potential and a desire for international exchange.
Financial Need: In competitive cases, priority will be given to students from low-income backgrounds.
