In response to the prevailing global fuel crisis, the Ministry of Education, Higher Education and Vocational Education has issued a comprehensive set of instructions to ensure the continuity of daily administrative activities and the teaching-learning process. These measures are designed to manage energy consumption while minimizing disruptions to student education.
The Ministry has officially transitioned all schools to a four-day work week. Until further notice, every Wednesday will be treated as a school holiday. To ensure academic progress is not stalled, the Ministry has mandated the following:
- Home-Based Learning: Principals must provide students with appropriate assignments, exercises, and revision materials to engage in self-study at home every Wednesday.
- Prioritizing Syllabi: Due to the limited time available to cover subject curricula, school hours must not be used for ceremonies or programs organized by schools or external institutions.
- Restricted Activities: Any events or programs that involve high fuel consumption, specifically vehicle parades, are temporarily suspended.
- Suspension of Tours: All planned educational tours and field trips are temporarily suspended until further notice.
The Secretary to the Ministry, Nalaka Kaluwewa, emphasized that these steps are vital for maintaining the educational process during this period of restricted resources. Further instructions regarding a return to normal operations will be issued once the fuel situation stabilizes.
