The Ministry of Education, Higher Education and Vocational Education has officially rolled out a new procedural code for National School Teacher Transfers, effective from June 30, 2025, according to a directive released by the Ministry Secretary, Nalaka Kaluwewa
Compulsory Transfers & Age Limit
- Service Period: Teachers who complete the maximum service period (or more) at a single school on the date considered for annual transfers will be subject to compulsory transfer.
- 2026 Transfers: For transfers pertaining to 2026, teachers who have served a maximum service period of 9 years in the same school and are under the age of 55 as of June 30, 2025, will be subject to compulsory transfer.
- Over-Age Teachers: Teachers exceeding the determined age limit may be transferred outside the district with their consent, or recommended for transfer within the district to a nearby service station based on service needs.
- Discretionary Transfer: The Teacher Transfer Board is empowered to transfer teachers subject to compulsory transfer, even if they have not submitted an application, when deemed necessary for service requirements.
