1 Eligibility — Who Can Apply as a School Candidate
- Must be currently enrolled in an Advanced Level class (Year 1 or Year 2) in a registered school.
- Maximum stay rule: Students who have remained in A/L classes for more than three years are not eligible to apply as school candidates.
- Must present a valid National Identity Card (NIC), valid Passport, or valid Driving License during the examination.
- Candidates without an NIC must visit the Department of Examinations in person to obtain a temporary identification number before the closing date.
- Students who have officially left school and hold a leaving certificate must apply as private candidates, not school candidates.

3 How to Apply — Step by Step
- 1 The school principal must log in to the official Department of Examinations online portal (doenets.lk) using school credentials.
- 2 Before entering student data, update the school profile — verify address, contact details, and examination city are fully accurate.
- 3 Enter each candidate’s details carefully. Double-check subjects and medium of instruction — changes will NOT be permitted after submission.
- 4 For students with visual impairments, hearing impairments, or other special needs, enter their details through the “Special Education Need Students” link within the system.
- 5 Submit the online application before the closing time on April 24, 2026.
- 6 Print one copy of the completed online application. Have it signed by both the student and the principal, then deliver it to the Zonal Education Office before May 5, 2026 at 10:00 AM.
