📝 Introduction

The Department of Examinations, Sri Lanka has confirmed that the G.C.E. Advanced Level Examination 2026 will be held from 10 August to 05 September 2026. Along with this, the Department has released instructions on collecting or downloading admission cards, the deadline for online amendments, accepted identification documents, and rules to be followed inside the examination hall. This notice is important for school candidates, private candidates, school principals, and parents.

📅 Key Dates

🏫 Admission Cards for School Candidates

• Admission cards have been sent to the respective Zonal Education Offices.
• School principals should collect them from the officer responsible for examinations at the relevant Zonal Education Office.
• Principals should distribute the admission cards to candidates without delay.
• School candidates may also obtain their admission cards through their respective schools.

👤 Admission Cards for Private Candidates

• Admission cards have been sent by post to candidates’ personal addresses.
• Private candidates can download their admission cards online from 24 July 2026.
• Candidates who have not received or cannot download the admission card should contact the Department of Examinations.
• When visiting the Department, candidates should bring a copy of the submitted application and proof of examination-fee payment.

✏️ Admission Card Amendments

Corrections relating to the candidate’s subject, medium or name must be submitted online. The amendment facility closes at 12.00 midnight on 03 August 2026.

🪪 Accepted Identification Documents

Candidates must produce one of the following valid identification documents at the examination hall:

• National Identity Card
• Valid passport
• Valid driving licence

🚫 Prohibited Items and Examination Rules

• Mobile phones, smartwatches and other electronic devices are strictly prohibited inside the examination hall.
• Violations may result in confiscation of devices and an examination ban of up to five years.
• Candidates must keep their faces and ears clearly visible throughout the examination.
• Impersonation, possessing notes, receiving unauthorised assistance and misconduct are punishable offences.
• Government-school students are not permitted to sit the examination as private candidates.
