The United States–Sri Lanka Fulbright Commission (US-SLFC) has announced the opening of applications for several Fulbright Scholarships and Fellowship Programmes for Sri Lankan citizens to pursue study, research, teaching, and professional development in the United States for the 2027–2028 academic year.
About the Fulbright Programme
- Established in 1952 through an agreement between the Governments of Sri Lanka and the United States
- Promotes educational and cultural exchange between the two countries
- Supports Sri Lankans to study, teach, conduct research, and gain professional experience in the U.S.
Scholarships and Programmes Open for Application
- Fulbright Master’s Fellowship Programme
- For outstanding Sri Lankans to pursue a Master’s degree in the U.S. (excluding clinical medicine)
- Applicants must hold a 4-year Bachelor’s degree and one year of professional experience
- Application Deadline: 31 March 2026
- Fulbright Visiting Scholar Awards Programme
- For academics, artists, and professionals to engage in post-doctoral research, teaching, or consultancy
- Requires a letter of invitation from a U.S. institution
- Priority given to applicants who have not previously spent time in the U.S.
- Application Deadline: 01 October 2026
- Fulbright Specialist Awards Programme
- Short-term (2–6 weeks) programme for U.S. specialists to support Sri Lankan institutions
- Focuses on capacity building, training, curriculum development, and institutional planning
- Application Deadline: Rolling basis
- Fulbright Teaching Excellence and Achievement (TEA) Awards
- Six-week programme for secondary-level teachers
- Emphasises U.S. classroom experience and global teacher exchange
- Application Deadline: 31 March 2026
- Fulbright Hubert H. Humphrey Fellowship Programme
- For mid-career professionals with leadership potential
- Ten-month non-degree professional programme in the U.S.
- Application Deadline: 30 June 2026
