The Department of Examinations has announced a nationwide ban on all tuition-related activities for the upcoming G.C.E. Ordinary Level (O/L) Examination 2025. The prohibition will take effect from midnight on Feb 11 and remain in force until the conclusion of the examination period.
The directive, issued by the Commissioner General of Examinations, is enforced under Section 22 of the Public Examinations Act No. 25 of 1968 and Gazette Notification No. 1816 (21.06.2013). The move aims to ensure the integrity of the national examination and prevent the spread of misinformation.
Strictly Prohibited Activities
Under the current regulations, the following activities are strictly forbidden:
- Instructional Sessions: Conducting physical or online tuition classes, subject-related lectures, seminars, or workshops specifically for exam candidates.
- Predictive Material: Printing, distributing, or possessing question papers that claim to contain “guessed” or “predicted” questions.
- False Advertising: Publishing posters, banners, handbills, or digital media (including social media) claiming to provide exact or similar questions to those appearing in the actual exam.
The Department warned that any individual, institution, or group found violating these orders will be prosecuted and could face fines or imprisonment under the Public Examinations Act.
Examination Schedule and Logistics
The 2025 G.C.E. O/L Examination is scheduled to take place from Feb 17 to Feb 26.
- Total Centers: 3,545 examination centers have been established island-wide.
- Purpose: The ban is a standard procedure designed to provide candidates with a calm environment for final preparations and to curb the influence of “exam-predicting” commercial interests.
