The Department of Examinations, Sri Lanka, has officially opened applications for the First Efficiency Bar Examination (1st EB Exam) for officers in the Sri Lanka Teacher Service (SLTS).
The key highlight this year is that the exam will be structured entirely under the new revised system, as per the Extraordinary Gazette Notification No. 2493/61 published on June 19, 2026.

Teachers intending to sit for the examination should keep a close eye on the following schedule:
- Commencement of Applications: June 22, 2026
- Closing Date for Applications: July 17, 2026
- Month of Examination: September 2026
🎓 Eligible Categories of Teachers
This examination is open to teachers currently serving in the following grades of the Sri Lanka Teacher Service:
- Class 3, Grade II of the SLTS
- Class 3, Grade I of the SLTS
- Teachers directly recruited to Class 2, Grade II of the SLTS
📝 Exam Structure and Syllabus Preparation
Since this is the first time the examination is being conducted under the newly revised system, teachers are advised to prepare through self-study. The Department of Examinations has informed that relevant syllabi and learning materials will be uploaded to the e-thaksalawa portal in the near future.
The revised examination structure comprises the following modules:

- Online Submissions Only: All applications must be submitted strictly online before the deadline on July 17, 2026. Late applications will not be accommodated.
- Applicability: The Gazette notification issued on June 19, 2026, applies strictly to the First Efficiency Bar Examination only. Separate Gazette notifications for the Second and Third Efficiency Bar examinations will be released in due course.
