The Government of Sri Lanka has officially announced a free 30-day tourist visa (ETA) program for nationals of 40 countries starting from 25 May 2026. The move is expected to boost tourism arrivals and strengthen Sri Lanka’s position as a leading travel destination in Asia.
According to the special notice issued to short-term visitors, eligible travelers can obtain a tourist Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA) free of charge for a stay of up to 30 days.
Countries Eligible for Sri Lanka Free Tourist Visa 2026
The following 40 countries are eligible for the free Sri Lanka tourist visa scheme:

ETA Still Mandatory Before Arrival
Although the visa fee has been waived, all foreign nationals — including travelers from the above-mentioned countries — are still required to obtain an Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA) before arriving in Sri Lanka.
The notice also confirms that nationals from Maldives, Seychelles, and Singapore will continue to receive ETA processing free of charge under existing bilateral agreements.

- Free tourist ETA valid for 30 days
- Double-entry facility allowed within the validity period
- Applicable for diplomatic, official, service, and ordinary passport holders
- Visa extension possible upon payment of applicable fees
- ETA fees paid before 25 May 2026 are non-refundable
Additionally, Maldivian nationals will continue to receive a 90-day tourist visa under the bilateral agreement between Sri Lanka and the Maldives.

Eligible travelers must apply online for the ETA before departure. Travelers are advised to use official Sri Lankan immigration channels and ensure all travel documents remain valid during their stay.
