The Ministry of Education has announced that all Muslim Schools will begin vacation from May 27, 2026, in observance of the Hajji holidays, in accordance with the officially approved 2026 School Term Plan and School Calendar of Activities.
According to the 2026 academic calendar, Muslim schools will conclude the First Term on Thursday, April 30, 2026, and commence the Second Term on Monday, May 4, 2026.
2026 School Term Schedule
Sinhala and Tamil Schools
First Term
- First Stage: January 5 – January 9
- Second Stage: January 21 – February 13
- Third Stage: March 3 – April 10
Second Term
- April 20 – July 24
Third Term
- First Stage: July 27 – August 7
- Second Stage: September 7 – December 4
Muslim Schools
First Term
- First Stage: January 5 – January 9
- Second Stage: January 21 – February 13
- Third Stage: March 23 – April 30
Second Term
- First Stage: May 4 – May 26
- Second Stage: June 1 – July 31
Third Term
- First Stage: August 3 – September 2
- Second Stage: September 7 – December 4
The Ministry further stated that all schools are expected to operate in accordance with the official academic and examination schedules issued for the year 2026
