The Ministry of Public Administration, Provincial Councils and Local Government has announced an official amendment to the recruitment process for Grade III of the Sri Lanka Engineering Service (Limited) 2026.
Originally announced in late January, the Public Service Commission has now extended the application deadlines and updated the qualification cutoff date to provide eligible technical officers more time to apply.
Updated Recruitment Timeline
Prospective candidates should take note of the new critical dates established by the recent amendment:
- New Closing Date for Applications: April 10, 2026.
- Final Grace Period: Applications delayed due to postal or institutional issues will be accepted until April 24, 2026.
- Qualification Cutoff: All required qualifications and conditions must now be fulfilled by March 3, 2026.
Applications must be sent via registered post through the Head of the applicant’s Institution to the Secretary of the Ministry of Public Administration at Independence Square, Colombo 07.

A total of 36 vacancies are available across various engineering categories:

Eligible Applicants: The recruitment is open to officers currently serving in the public or provincial public service, specifically:
- Engineering Assistants (Department of Irrigation).
- Supervisory Managers (Department of Railways).
- Technical Officers (Sri Lanka Technological Service).
Candidates must be registered as an Incorporated Engineer or Associate Engineer of the Engineering Council, Sri Lanka, and meet specific service tenure requirements (generally 15 to 21 years depending on the grade and educational qualifications).
Selection and Benefits
Selection will be based on a 100-mark marking scheme. The interview board will award marks based on:
- Service Experience: Maximum 60 marks.
- Technical Knowledge: Maximum 20 marks (Oral test on principles and practical application).
- Additional Skills: Marks are also allocated for computer knowledge, English proficiency, and past service records.
The post offers a permanent, pensionable position with a salary scale under the SL-1-2025 category, starting at a monthly basic of Rs. 82,150
