The Open University of Sri Lanka (OUSL) has announced that applications are now open for the Bachelor of Education (BEd Hons in Natural Sciences) Degree Programme for the 2025/2026 academic year. The program is designed for aspiring educators specializing in Natural Sciences and is offered at Levels 05 and 06.
Program Overview
The BEd Hons in Natural Sciences is a well-structured degree program aimed at science educators who wish to enhance their teaching capabilities. This program is conducted in Sinhala, Tamil, and English, allowing wider accessibility for students across the country.
Requirements to Register for Level 5 of BEd Hons in Natural Sciences
Candidates must fulfill one of the following criteria:
a) B.Sc/B.Ed Students of the OUSL
- Passes in all science courses (60 credits) at Levels 3 and 4.
- For students who registered on or before 2015/2016, OCAM in all science courses (60 credits) at Levels 3 and 4.
- Passes in courses equivalent to at least 45 credits at Levels 3 and 4 (Science courses). These students may retain D, D+, and C- grades for up to 15 credits.
b) Others
- A B.Sc. (Natural Sciences) degree from a recognized university.
- A Diploma in Science from the Faculty of Natural Sciences, OUSL.
Exemptions from Level 5 of BEd Hons in Natural Sciences
Teachers who have completed a 3-year Teacher Education Program at a National College of Education and hold a National Diploma in Teaching (Science/Mathematics) will be exempted from Level 5 (only for internal students).
Requirements to Register for Level 6
To qualify for Level 6, applicants must meet the following criteria:
a) OUSL Students
- OCAM in all Level 5 courses (30 credits) in the B.Ed Honours in Natural Sciences program.
b) Exemptions
- Students exempted from all Level 5 courses and who have passed all 60 credits at Levels 3 and 4 (Science courses).
c) Other Students
- For students registered on or before 2015/2016, OCAM in all Level 3 and 4 Science courses (60 credits) and passes in courses equal to at least 45 credits at Levels 3 and 4.
- These students may retain D, D+, and C- grades up to 15 credits.
- Students exempted from all Level 5 courses of the B.Ed Honours in Natural Sciences program.
