The Sri Lanka Institute of Advanced Technological Education (SLIATE), under the Ministry of Education, Higher Education, and Vocational Education, has officially called for applications for admission to its Higher National Diploma (HND) programmes for the 2025 academic year.
Applications are invited from students who have passed the G.C.E. Advanced Level Examination in 2024 or in previous years. The application process is strictly online and must be completed through apply.sliate.ac.lk. Submissions through any other medium will not be accepted.
Programme Categories and Selection Criteria
SLIATE offers two main categories of HND programmes:
- Category I – Admission based on Z-Score:
Includes HNDA, HNDBA, HNDBF, HNDE (Civil/Mechanical/Electrical & Electronics), HNDQS, HNDBSE, HNDT (Agriculture), and HNDFT. - Category II – Admission based on a defined marking scheme:
Includes HND in English, HNDIT, HNDM, HNDPM, and HNDTHM.
Applicants may choose up to 10 preferred combinations of ATIs and HND programmes across both categories. A fee of Rs. 1000 must be paid at the People’s Bank, and the transaction reference number (TRN) must be submitted with the online application.

Important Dates and Instructions
The deadline for online applications is 14th July 2025. After applying online, candidates must print and sign the system-generated application and send it along with the payment receipt to their first-preference ATI by registered post. Late applications will not be considered under any circumstance.
Selected candidates will be notified via email or SMS to confirm their registration within two weeks. Failure to confirm registration in time will result in disqualification.
Full-Time and Part-Time Modes Available
SLIATE offers both full-time and part-time study options. Full-time programmes are free of charge, while part-time programmes have semester fees ranging from Rs. 17,000 to Rs. 30,000 depending on the course. Part-time programmes are tailored for employed individuals in the relevant field and require proof of employment at the interview.
Entry Qualifications
Eligibility varies by programme. Most courses require a G.C.E. A/L pass in a relevant stream and ordinary passes in English and Mathematics at O/L level. Some programmes have additional requirements, including specific A/L subjects or work experience.
For instance, the HNDA (Full-Time) requires a commerce A/L with Accounting, while part-time HNDA applicants must also be employed and may be eligible for exemptions based on professional qualifications such as AAT, CIMA, or ACCA.
Hostel and Other Facilities
Hostel facilities are limited and provided only at select ATIs. Full-time students at Dehiwala and Gampaha (females only), and at Ampara and Colombo (both genders) can apply for hostel accommodation.
Key Notes
- Students already enrolled in full-time HND programmes of 3 years or more are not eligible for university admission under the University Act.
- Preference will be given to students under 23 years of age who sat for A/Ls in 2024.
- All full-time students must undergo at least six months of in-plant training.
- Application falsification will result in immediate disqualification.
