The Ministry of Education, Higher Education, and Vocational Education has announced the opening of applications for the prestigious Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR) Undergraduate Scholarships under the Nehru Memorial and Rajiv Gandhi Scholarship Schemes for the academic year 2025/26. The Government of India is offering 60 scholarships to deserving Sri Lankan students in various disciplines.
Eligibility Criteria
Applicants must:
- Be Sri Lankan citizens aged 18-40 years as of March 1, 2025.
- Have obtained a minimum of three passes at the 2023 G.C.E. (A/L) examination in the relevant fields.
- Possess a good knowledge of English (at least a “C” pass in the G.C.E. O/L and “S” pass in G.C.E. A/L).
- Be in good health and willing to reside in India for the duration of their studies.
- Not be currently enrolled as an internal student in a state university in Sri Lanka.
Fields of Study & Scholarships Available
The scholarships are offered under two categories:
- Nehru Memorial Scholarship Scheme (50 scholarships) – Covers Engineering (BE/B.Tech), Science, Business, Economics, Commerce, Humanities, and Arts.
- Rajiv Gandhi Scholarship Scheme (10 scholarships) – Exclusively for students from the Mathematical stream, covering Bachelor of Engineering (BE), Bachelor of Technology (B.Tech), and Information Technology.
Note: The scholarships do not cover Medical, Paramedical, Law, or Fashion Design courses.
Scholarship Benefits
Selected candidates will receive:
- Full tuition fee coverage.
- Monthly sustenance allowance.
- Annual grant for books and stationery.
- Airfare to the nearest destination in India.
- Educational tour grant.
- Hostel accommodation inside the university campus.
