The Ministry of Education has announced an increase in the monthly financial incentives provided to principals and teachers serving in difficult and very difficult schools across Sri Lanka.
According to Circular No. 2006/44 (i) issued on 04 May 2026, the revised allowance will be effective from 01 April 2026 for officers serving in National and Provincial schools categorized as difficult and very difficult under Education Circular 01/2024(I).
Revised Monthly Allowances
- Principals and Teachers in Very Difficult Service Schools – Rs. 4,000 monthly
- Principals and Teachers in Difficult Service Schools – Rs. 3,000 monthly
The circular states that the revision was approved following agreements reached with the Director General of Management Services and the Director General of National Budget under the 2026 Budget allocations.
The approval of the Director General of Establishments has also been obtained for the amendment of the special monthly allowance.
The Ministry has instructed relevant Provincial Public Service Commissions, Provincial Education Ministries, Provincial Directors of Education, and Zonal Directors of Education to implement the revised payments accordingly.
