The Ministry of Education, Higher Education, and Vocational Education has officially opened applications for its prestigious foreign scholarship program for the 2026/2027 academic year. Part of the “A Thriving Nation – A Beautiful Life” policy framework, the initiative aims to send high-achieving G.C.E. Advanced Level students to top-ranked international universities.
Now in its second year, the program will award scholarships to approximately 25 to 50 students this cycle, with a long-term goal of empowering 200 students over a five-year period ending in 2029.
Key Highlights of the Award
The scholarship is designed to nurture “Advanced Human Resources” for Sri Lanka. Selected students can receive a grant of up to Rs. 20,000,000 per year for a maximum of four years.
The scholarship package includes:
- Full tuition and academic fees.
- A monthly stipend for food and accommodation.
- A one-time economy class round-trip airfare.
- Health insurance contributions.
- Potential coverage for visa fees, settlement allowances, and English language training.
Eligibility and Selection
Applications are open to Sri Lankan citizens who sat for the 2025 G.C.E. A/L Examination.
- Academic Merit: Candidates must have excellent results and a minimum of 30% in the Common General Paper.
- English Proficiency: A minimum “C” grade in General English (or equivalent) is required.
- University Ranking: Students must choose a university ranked within the top 500 globally (QS, THE, or Shanghai Rankings).
- Priority Fields: While all academic fields are eligible, priority will be given to “globally emerging fields” not currently offered in Sri Lankan state universities.
