Official Languages Proficiency Oral Test 2026 – Apply Online

Official Languages Proficiency Oral Test 2026

The Department of Official Languages has introduced the Official Languages Proficiency Oral Test for public officers and provincial public service officers to fulfill the official language proficiency requirement.

According to Public Administration Circular Letter 01/2026, applications for this oral test should be submitted online through the Department of Official Languages website. The oral test is conducted for officers who have completed the required written qualification or passed Sinhala/Tamil as a second language at the G.C.E. O/L Examination.

What is the Official Languages Proficiency Oral Test?

The Official Languages Proficiency Oral Test is conducted to assess the official language ability of public officers.

The oral examination includes:

✅ Listening Skills Assessment
✅ Speaking & Reading Skills Assessment

Candidates must obtain at least 40% marks separately in each component to pass the examination.

Who Can Apply?

Only officers who have passed Sinhala or Tamil as a second language at G.C.E. O/L can apply for this oral test.

Applicants should check the relevant category and level according to their service classification before submitting the application.

Important Details

Applications can be submitted throughout the year via the Department of Official Languages website.

  • The application form should be completed in English.
  • The oral test is usually conducted twice a year.
  • The admission card must be certified by the Head of Institution.

Candidates must bring one of the following documents for identity verification:

✅ National Identity Card
✅ Passport
✅ Driving License

Results will be published on the Department of Official Languages website.

Examination Fees

✅ Level I – Rs. 2,000
✅ Level II – Rs. 1,500
✅ Level III – Rs. 1,000
