The Ministry of Education has introduced a new Efficiency Bar (EB) Examination System for teachers in the Sri Lanka Teacher Service, aimed at enhancing professional standards and improving teacher competencies. The revamped structure includes three stages of Efficiency Bar Exams (EB 1, EB 2, and EB 3), each aligned with specific teacher grades and career progressions. In total, 10 modules are outlined under this new framework.
EB Examination Overview:
- EB 1:
- Applicable to: Teachers in Class 3 – Grade II, Class 3 – Grade I, and 2-11 (Bed) Recruitments
- Completion Requirement: Within 3 years of appointment
- Modules:
- Teacher competency framework and teacher professionalism
- Teaching methodology
- Digital technology in education
- Education-related law
- EB 2:
- Applicable to: 2-11 Teachers (excluding B.Ed direct recruits)
- Completion Requirement: Within 4 years
- Modules:
5. Leadership development and management
6. Strategies for effective activity planning
7. Classroom management and inclusive education
- EB 3:
- Applicable to: Teachers in DATS 2 – Grade I
- Completion Requirement: Within 4 years
- Modules:
8. Physical and psychological wellness
9. 21st century school
10. Action research
Examination Format:
- Paper I: Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs)
- Duration: 1 Hour
- Marks: 40
- Paper II: Short Structured Questions
- Duration: 2 Hours
- Marks: 60
To pass the EB Examination, a candidate must score a total of over 40% combining both Paper I and Paper II.
The EB Examination will be conducted twice a year, providing teachers with greater flexibility and opportunity to qualify within the required period.
