The Sri Lanka Institute of Tourism & Hotel Management (SLITHM) has opened applications for the National Tourist Guide Programme 2026. This is one of the most recognized and respected programs for anyone aspiring to build a rewarding career in Sri Lanka’s booming tourism sector.
Programme Highlights

Entry Qualifications
You can apply if you meet any of the following:
- Sri Lankan citizen aged between 18 and 65 years
- Passed G.C.E. A/L Examination in one sitting (within two attempts) OR
- Hold a University degree recognized by the UGC OR
- Have minimum 5 years continuous experience as a Licensed Chauffeur Tourist Guide OR
- Completed a Tour Guiding program at NVQ Level 04 OR
- Have minimum 8 years experience as a Licensed Area Tourist Guide
Language Requirements
English Medium
- Credit pass in English at G.C.E. O/L
Foreign Languages (French, German, Korean, Italian, Chinese, Spanish, Hindi, Russian, Japanese, Greek etc.)
- Proven proficiency through 5+ years living/working in the relevant country OR
- Intermediate/Advanced level certificate recognized by SLITHM
Preference will be given to candidates proficient in high-demand languages: French, German, Korean, Italian, Chinese, Spanish, Hindi, Russian, Japanese, and Greek.
Selection Process
Candidates will be selected based on:
- Written Selection Test
- Language Competency Test (Additional Rs. 5,000 fee)
