Government Translator Service: EB Exam 2025

The Ministry of Public Administration, Provincial Councils, and Local Government has officially announced the Efficiency Bar Examination for Class I Officers of the Government Translators’ Service for the year 2025.

The examination is scheduled to be held in August 2026 in Colombo, under the supervision of the Director General of the Sri Lanka Institute of Development Administration (SLIDA).

Key Application Details

Eligible officers belonging to the combined service are invited to submit their applications by the following deadline:

• Submission Method: Applications must be prepared on A4 size paper using both sides. While they can be typed, the candidate must fill in the details in their own handwriting.
• Postal Address: Completed applications should be sent via Registered Post through the respective Head of Department to:Assistant Director (Examinations), 28/10, Sri Lanka Institute of Development Administration, Malalasekera Mawatha, Colombo 07.

Examination Fees

• First-time applicants: No fee is required.
• Repeat applicants: A fee of Rs. 250 per subject must be paid to the People’s Bank, Bambalapitiya branch (Account No: 310100119027430). The original receipt must be attached to the application.

Examination Structure

The examination consists of two papers, each lasting 3 hours and carrying 100 marks. Candidates must score at least 40% in each paper to pass.

• Sinhala to Tamil / Tamil to Sinhala.
• Sinhala to English / English to Sinhala.
• Tamil to English / English to Tamil.

Important Requirements

• Identity: Candidates must prove their identity at the exam hall using a National Identity Card, a valid Passport, or a valid Sri Lankan Driving License.
• Language: Applications must be filled in the official state language.
• Results: Results will be published on the Ministry’s official website once issued by the Director General of Combined Services.
