The government has announced a significant policy shift regarding admissions to the Faculty of Medicine at the General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University (KDU) for the 2025/26 academic year. According to Deputy Minister of Defence, Major General (Retd) Aruna Jayasekara, only foreign students and cadet officers will be recruited for the upcoming intake.
The announcement was made during today’s Parliamentary session, where the Deputy Minister clarified that public advertisements for student recruitment to KDU courses were published on May 21. However, he emphasized that an important correction must be made concerning the clauses related to the Faculty of Medicine.
“This decision aligns with a broader policy direction and will be reflected through an official amendment to the recruitment notices,” he stated.
