The Goethe-Institut Sri Lanka, in collaboration with the Ministry of Education and the German Teachers Association of Sri Lanka (SriDaF), is pleased to announce German Language Teaching Excellence Scholarship Award -2025 – a fully funded scholarship program for German language teachers. This prestigious opportunity offers selected teachers the chance to spend three weeks in Germany, further enhancing their linguistic and pedagogical skills.
Eligibility & Selection Process
This program is not exclusively for the most outstanding German teachers but aims to provide a fair selection process based on multiple criteria. Selection will take place in three rounds:
Round 1 – Submission of Documents
Applicants must submit the following documents for evaluation:
• A letter of motivation (max two pages written in German)
• Proof of current German language proficiency (Goethe-Zertifikat or equivalent)
• A detailed lesson plan of a lesson showcasing their teaching methodology
• A certified timetable approved by the school principal/Any other representative of MoE
• A 15-20 minute recorded lesson (shared through a YouTube link or Google Drive link)
• Performance data of the last two years (O-Level and A-Level student results, if applicable)
• Evidence of extracurricular engagement in promoting German, such as German club activities or school/regional initiatives
• Any additional contributions made towards promoting German language education in the school system
Round 2 – School Visit
A representative from the Goethe-Institut Sri Lanka and the Ministry of Education will visit shortlisted candidates’ schools to assess their teaching environment and impact.
Round 3 – Interview
Finalists will undergo a brief interview focusing on their knowledge of the German language and culture.
Scholarship Award
The winning teacher will receive a three-week, fully funded scholarship to Germany before October 2025 to attend a German language course organized by a Goethe-Institut in Germany.
Important Conditions
• Applicants must not have previously visited Germany through a Goethe-Institut or Ministry of Education-funded program.
• Teachers are expected to actively promote German language learning within their schools by organizing after-school classes, integrating German with other subjects, and encouraging student participation in cultural events.
• Participation in professional development programs conducted by the Ministry of Education or Goethe-Institut will be taken into account.
• Consideration will be given to teachers who successfully encourage students to take A1, A2, or B1 German exams for respective school students.
