The Ministry of Education has issued a new directive to all school principals, emphasizing that no external organization is permitted to conduct programs targeting school students without prior approval from the relevant education authorities.
According to the circular signed by Mr. P.R. Kariyawasam, Additional Secretary (School Affairs), on behalf of the Secretary of the Ministry of Education, formal permission is mandatory before organizing any such activities within school premises.
The Ministry has clarified that National Schools must obtain approval directly from the Ministry of Education, while Provincial Schools must seek authorization from the respective Provincial Departments of Education.
The circular comes in response to a number of complaints about external groups conducting unauthorized programs in schools. The Ministry has expressed serious concern over these incidents, noting that it cannot take responsibility for the quality, safety, or content of unapproved programs.
Principals have been urged to ensure that no external programs are conducted without official permission, and that student participation only occurs once the proper approval has been granted by the relevant authority.
