The Department of Archaeology, operating under the Ministry of Buddhasasana, Religious and Cultural Affairs, has announced the recruitment of 515 new employees for archaeological sites located across Sri Lanka.
According to the official notification, applications are invited for the following positions on an open basis:
- Archaeological Assistant III – 191 vacancies
- Watcher III – 324 vacancies
Eligibility Requirements
Applicants must have passed at least six subjects in the G.C.E. Ordinary Level Examination, including two credit passes, within a maximum of two sittings. Relevant field experience will be considered an additional qualification.
Candidates must be physically and mentally fit to perform duties anywhere in the country and should be between 18 and 45 years of age at the closing date of applications.
Selection Process
Recruitment will be conducted through a structured interview. Candidates who meet the required qualifications will be called for interviews, and marks will be awarded based on educational qualifications, sports achievements, relevant experience, membership in voluntary societies, professional certificates, and personality.
Salary and Benefits
The positions fall under the Public Administration salary structure effective from January 2025, with a starting salary scale beginning at Rs. 40,000 and progressing according to government regulations. The posts are pensionable and come with public service benefits.
