The Department of Examinations, Sri Lanka, has released the Gazette notification calling for applications for the Daham Pasal Final Certificate Examination (2025 Year), scheduled for September 2026.
Applications are now open for the Daham Pasal Final Certificate Examination 2026 (2025 Year), announced by the Department of Examinations through the Gazette. The examination will be held in September 2026, and applications are accepted from 26 June to 24 July 2026. First-time candidates are exempted from fees.

🎓 Eligibility – Daham Pasal Final Certificate Examination 2026
To apply, candidates must fulfill at least one of the following:
- Passed at least 06 subjects, including Buddhism, at the G.C.E. (Ordinary Level) Examination.
- Passed the Grade 10 Examination conducted by the Department of Buddhist Affairs.
📝 How to Apply
- Form retrieval: Forms and instruction sheets were posted to registered Dhamma schools as of 6 November 2025, and can also be downloaded from www.doenets.lk.
- Preparation: Prepare the application in duplicate (two copies). The candidate’s name and NIC number must strictly match the NIC.
- Verification: The candidate checks all details and signs. The Dhamma School Principal signs both copies, certifying the candidate’s certificates and eligibility.
- Payment (if applicable): The Principal collects fees and deposits the total at any Post Office to the Department of Examinations Revenue Head No. 20-03-02-13. Paste the original receipt firmly on the back of the original application.
- Special needs: State it clearly on the form and attach copies of relevant medical certificates.
- Submission: Send the original application by Registered Post to the address below. The Principal keeps the second copy securely.

🏫 Examination Centres & Language Mediums
🗣️ Language mediums
The examination is conducted only in Sinhala and English mediums. A candidate can choose only one medium, which cannot be changed later.
📍 Centres & identity
Centres are established island-wide by candidate density (e.g. Colombo, Gampaha, Kalutara, Kandy, Matale, Nuwara Eliya, Galle, Matara, Hambantota, etc.). Low-applicant towns are shifted to the nearest centre. Prove identity with NIC, Passport, or Driving License; keep face and ears uncovered in the hall.
📊 Evaluation, Grading & Structure
The examination has 04 question papers, each 3 hours. To pass, a candidate must pass all four subjects. Failing only one subject is a “Weak Pass” (Ūna Sāmarthya); that subject may be re-sat within the next two consecutive years to clear it.

Paper 01 — Buddha Charitaya (The Life of the Buddha)
- Part I: Indian society in the Buddha’s era — social, political, economic, religious and philosophical backgrounds.
- Part II: The Life of the Buddha (Prince Siddhartha’s birth to Parinirvana), his qualities (Tādī Guṇa), social reforms and leadership.
- Part III: The Fourfold Assembly (Sivvanak Pirisa) — key Arahants, Theris, Upasakas and Upasikas (e.g. Sariputta, Moggallana, Mahaprajapati Gotami, Anathapindika, Visakha).
Paper 02 — Buddha Dharma & Pali Language Proficiency
- Part I: Basic teachings — Paticca Samuppada, Four Noble Truths, Tilakkhana, Kamma and Rebirth, and Nibbana (Theravada tradition).
- Part II: Meditation (Samatha & Vipassana) and the Four Ultimate Realities (Sathara Paramartha Dhamma) in Abhidharma.
- Part III: Pali proficiency — translation from the Dhammapada (Yamaka, Puppha, Bala, Pandita Vaggas), Chattu-Bhanavara Pali, Rasavahini, and Vandana Gathas.
Paper 03 — Shasana Ithihasaya (History of the Buddha Shasana)
- Part I: Indian Buddhist history — missionary origins, expansion, the Four Buddhist Councils, and the Ashokan Era.
- Part II: Sri Lankan Buddhist history — Mahindagamanaya, the Bhikkhuni Sasana, Sri Maha Bodhi and Sacred Tooth Relic, the Maha Vihara / Abhayagiri / Jetavana, and committing the Tripitaka to writing.
Paper 04 — Buddhist Culture
- Part I: Customs & rituals — monastic and lay customs, temple and family life, and ceremonies (Sanghika Dana, Kathina, Pirit, Bodhi Puja).
- Part II: Buddhist art & crafts — architecture, sculptures (Samadhi, Awukana, Gal Vihara), and mural paintings (Anuradhapura, Polonnaruwa, Kandy eras).
- Part III: Sinhala Buddhist literature — Jataka Book, Saddharma Ratnavaliya, Pujavaliya, Buduguna Alankaraya, and Thun Sarana.

When is the application deadline?
Applications open on 26 June 2026 and close on 24 July 2026. Late applications are rejected without notice.
Who is eligible to apply?
Anyone who has passed at least 6 subjects including Buddhism at G.C.E. (O/L), or passed the Grade 10 Examination of the Department of Buddhist Affairs.
What are the examination fees?
First-time candidates are free. Repeat candidates pay LKR 200, and those completing weak passes pay LKR 50.
How is the examination structured and graded?
