Court Interpreter Vacancies (Open Exam)

The Judicial Service Commission (JSC) of Sri Lanka has announced an open competitive examination for the recruitment of Court Interpreter (Sinhala/Tamil/English) Grade III under the Court Management Assistant’s Service in the Scheduled Public Officer’s Service. Applications are invited from eligible Sri Lankan citizens, with the deadline set for June 27, 2025.

Key Details of the Examination

Eligibility Criteria:
- Applicants must be Sri Lankan citizens aged 18–32 years as of May 30, 2025.
- Educational qualifications include:
  - G.C.E. O/L: Credit passes in 4 subjects (including Mathematics) and 2 languages (Sinhala/Tamil/English) in one sitting.
  - G.C.E. A/L: Pass in all subjects (excluding Common General Test and General English) in one sitting.
- Proficiency in international languages will be an added advantage.
Examination Structure:
- Three papers: Language Proficiency (100 marks), Aptitude (100 marks), and Translation (100 marks).
- Minimum passing marks: 40% for Language Proficiency and Aptitude; Translation marks will be determined by the JSC.
- Exams will be conducted in Sinhala or Tamil medium, with translation tests tailored to language pairs (e.g., Sinhala-English, Tamil-English).
Salary and Service Conditions:
- Salary Scale: Rs. 48,470–82,800 per month (MN 2-2025).
- Probation: 3 years, with an Efficiency Bar Examination required within 5 years of recruitment.
- Language Proficiency: Mandatory secondary-level proficiency in the other official language (Sinhala/Tamil/English) within 3 years of joining.

- Fee: Rs. 400, payable to the JSC account (People’s Bank, Dam Street Branch).
- Applications must be submitted by registered post to the JSC Secretariat, Colombo 12, by June 27, 2025.
- In-service government candidates must apply through their department heads.
