A dedicated Task Force has been officially appointed to lead the Digital Education Transformation initiative for Grades 6 to 13 in Sri Lanka, marking a significant step towards modernizing the country’s education system.
At a special discussion chaired by Prime Minister Dr. Harini Amarasuriya, appointment letters were handed over to the newly selected members of the Task Force, which was established by the Cabinet to spearhead the nationwide digital learning strategy.
The Prime Minister, who also serves as the Minister of Higher Education, Education and Vocational Training, emphasized the importance of this initiative in ensuring equal access to quality education for all students, including those with disabilities. She noted that the implementation of digital learning systems is a timely and essential response to the current shortage of over 42,000 teachers in national and provincial schools.
Mr. Pradeep Saputhanthri, Secretary to the Prime Minister, was appointed as the Chairperson of the Task Force. Other key officials who participated in the event included Deputy Minister of Vocational Education Mr. Nalin Hewage, Deputy Minister of Education and Higher Education Dr. Madhura Seneviratne, Secretary to the Ministry of Education Mr. Nalaka Kaluwawa, and Secretary to the Ministry of Digital Economy Mr. Varuna Dhanapala.
The Task Force is expected to play a pivotal role in formulating policies, addressing implementation challenges, and ensuring equitable distribution of digital resources to schools across the country.
