The Survey Department of Sri Lanka has announced applications for the 2025 Examination to issue the Surveyor General’s Certificate as an Authorized Draughtsman. This examination provides essential certification for those wishing to practice as authorized draughtsmen across the country.
The exam will be conducted in two parts:
- Part I: Preparation of Coordinate Sheets – to be held on 26th July 2025
- Part II: Plan Work – scheduled for 25th October 2025
Candidates must pass Part I to be eligible to sit for Part II. Those who successfully pass both sections during the same examination cycle will be awarded the Surveyor General’s Certificate.
Eligibility Criteria
Applicants must:
- Have passed the G.C.E. (O/L) or National Certificate of Education Examination in six subjects, with at least two credit passes.
- Have completed a draughtsmanship-related course of at least one year at a government or semi-government institution.
Examination Fees
- Part I: Rs. 1,200
- Part II: Rs. 6,800 (only applicable to those who pass Part I)
Payments must be made in person at designated Survey Department offices, and receipts must be affixed to the application form. No other modes of payment will be accepted.
Application Process
Applications must be submitted by post using A4-sized paper, as per the specimen provided in the official gazette, and should reach:

The envelope must be clearly marked with:
“Examination for Issuance of Surveyor General’s Certificate as Authorized Draughtsman – 2025”
Deadline for applications: June 9, 2025
Late or incorrectly filled applications will be rejected.
Required Equipment
- For Part I, candidates must bring their own drawing instruments and non-programmable calculators.
- For Part II, candidates must bring laptops with Microsoft Excel and Word installed, along with necessary drawing and calculating tools. Printing materials will be provided at the venue.
Candidates must also present valid photo identification, such as a National Identity Card, passport, or recent government-issued photo ID, to be admitted into the exam hall.
The examination will be conducted under the metric system.
