A key discussion was held today at the Isurupaya Education Ministry under the patronage of Deputy Minister of Education and Higher Education, Dr. Madura Seneviratne, to address delays in the disbursement of the Mahapola Scholarship Grant to university students.
The meeting focused on short-term measures to minimize delays in awarding grants to first-year students in 2025, as well as strategies to ensure that students from other academic years receive their stipends without interruption.
Dr. Seneviratne also emphasized the need for a long-term modernization plan, including the upgrading of the computerized data system for Mahapola scholarship recipients. This initiative aims to enhance efficiency and transparency in the grant distribution process.
Among the participants in the discussion were Senior Professor Kapila Seneviratne, Chairman of the University Grants Commission (UGC), along with senior officials from the UGC and the Mahapola Trust Fund.
The Education Ministry reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring that all eligible students receive their Mahapola grants on time, enabling them to continue their higher education without financial hindrances.
