Education Ministry Secretary Nalaka Kaluwewa says that no decision has been taken so far to revise the previously announced school reopening date. He confirmed that schools are still expected to reopen on December 16th as planned.
He noted, however, that a key discussion regarding the reopening of schools will be held today (02), during which the current situation and the feasibility of reopening will be reviewed.
Kaluwewa further stated that the Ministry is taking steps to reopen schools in disaster-affected regions at least at the provincial level, depending on safety conditions and recommendations from local authorities.
This announcement comes following an earlier statement by Deputy Minister of Education Madura Seneviratne, who said that all schools islandwide would remain closed until further notice. The Education Secretary’s clarification indicates that the final decision on reopening is still under consideration, and the public is urged to rely on official updates issued by the Ministry.
