Academic activities at the University of Peradeniya, which were disrupted due to Cyclone Ditwah, will fully resume for six faculties by December 29, Vice-Chancellor Professor Terrence Madhujith announced.
The Faculty of Medicine, Faculty of Allied Health Sciences, and Faculty of Engineering resumed classes on December 16 due to ongoing examinations. The Faculty of Agriculture, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, and Faculty of Dental Sciences are scheduled to recommence on December 29, while the Faculty of Arts and Faculty of Science will resume on January 5.
One building of the Faculty of Management, which sustained severe damage, has been declared unsafe, and assessments are ongoing. New students admitted to the Faculty of Management after the 2024 A/L Examination will begin academic activities as planned on February 10, with other batches resuming in an orderly manner.
The estimated flood-related damage to the university amounts to approximately Rs. 4 billion, which has been reported to the Ministry of Higher Education. The Vice-Chancellor also stated that individuals or organizations willing to provide assistance may contact the university through details available on its official website.
