The Ministry of Education, Higher Education and Vocational Education has released its Progress Report for 2025, highlighting major developments in general education, curriculum reform, digital learning, and student welfare across Sri Lanka.
According to the report, Sri Lanka continues to strengthen its free education system, supporting over 3.8 million students and 10,000+ schools. Key welfare initiatives—such as free textbooks, school meals, uniforms, and the Suraksha student insurance program—supported millions of learners, helping reduce school dropout rates.

- Improved teacher training and school infrastructure upgrades
The School Meal Programme benefited 1.5 million primary students, while 1.05 million schoolgirls received sanitary napkin vouchers under the national hygiene initiative.
Digital transformation also saw major progress with:

- ICT hubs being set up with international support
- Expanded digital content through e-Thaksalawa
