The Ministry of Education has released new Guidelines on Inclusive Education under the Reasonable Accommodation for Education framework. The document, prepared by the Non-Formal and Special Education Branch with the support of the JICA REACH Project, provides practical directions to ensure equitable access to education for all children, including those with special needs.
The guidelines outline the role of Zonal Assessment Committees (ZACSE) in assessing children with disabilities, procedures for school admission, and methods for individualized learning support. They also include a detailed collection of Teaching and Learning Aids (TLAs) and a Handbook for Promoting Inclusive Education to help schools adopt inclusive practices effectively.
This initiative aims to strengthen Sri Lanka’s commitment to the right to education for every child, promoting equity, accessibility, and inclusive learning environments across the country.
